by

on Thu 22 Jan 2009 11:47 GMT
At long last the US Food and Drug Administration has finally approved a diet pill which can be bought over-the-counter and which is aimed at adults suffering from obesity. But just how effective will this new drug be and is it going to be the answer for the many thousands of obese individuals who find that losing weight is extremely hard work?
To some extend we already have the answers to these questions because this is not a new drug at all but one that has been widely used in the United States since 1999. The drug, known as Orlistat, is in fact nothing more than a half-dose version of the prescription drug Xenical.
The traditional route for weight loss in cases of obesity is for doctors to start by recommending a regime of diet and exercise and, where this doesn't work, to move on to assist the dieting process ... more »

Every year more than 70 million people resolve to lose weight by going on a diet, which feeds the big, fat $58 billion diet and weight-loss industry. After all the money is wasted, the cold, harsh reality is that fewer than 5 percent of dieters will realize long-term results. The other 95 percent will regain all the weight they lost, and then some. How can an industry survive with such a low success rate? How can it be legal to market and sell something that has a proven track record for failure? Now consumers have a brand new diet deception being marketed to them backed with over $150 million in marketing to spin the weight-loss lie.
Consumers desperately searching for solution to their weight challenges now have easy access to the new FDA-approved over-the-counter (OTC) weight-loss drug Orlistat, marketed under the name Alli. Lest you think this is a brand ... more »

on Thu 22 Jan 2009 11:43 GMT
The Alli diet Orlistat pill is the only over-the-counter, FDA approved weight-loss aid for overweight adults. Unlike other weight-loss aids and diet pills, Alli Orlistat won't make you jittery, restless or irritable.
The alli diet Orlistat pill works directly in the digestive tract by adhering to some of the natural enzymes. This prevents those enzymes from breaking down about twenty-five percent of the fat you consume. Any undigested fat that you eat is then passed out of the body instead of being turned into fat.
The alli diet Orlistat pill, in combination with a low-fat and calorie diet plan can help you lose fifty percent more weight than by dieting alone. This means that instead of losing ten pounds by just dieting alone, you could lose fifteen pounds by taking alli Orlistat.
Alli Orlistat does have some potential side effects. If you take the alli Orlistat weight-loss aid and eat ... more »

Obesity is a sickness that strikes anyone at any age. If left untreated, obesity can lead to serious complications like high blood pressure, heart complications, and even diabetes. Because of this fact, Americans are continuously finding ways to lose weight, sometimes even resorting to unhealthy methods and trusting unproven claims. According to reports, Americans spend as much as $56 billion every year on weight loss methods and products, some proving to be hazardous to one’s health.
Different weight loss methods
A variety of weight loss methods are available in the market today. Some promote a strict dieting, composed of a planned set of menu for each day of the week. Others follow a rigorous exercise program that involves cardio workout. Meanwhile, drastic measures include unguaranteed weight loss methods like hypnosis and surgery.

You've probably got hundreds of recipes in your collection but maybe not all of them are as healthy as you'd like them to be. Which is likely a shame as there's a good chance that some of those recipes are amongst your favorites.
How do you go about changing your favorite recipes into ones that are healthy for you? Even those old family favorites that have been passed down through the generations.
1. Reduce the amount of fat, sugar and salt in your recipes. You'll be pleasantly surprised just how much you can reduce the level of fat, sugar and salt in your recipes without affecting the taste. If you've cut back too much, it's always possible to add a little bit more salt at the table. Gastric Bands and the Associated Complications
by

on Wed 14 Jan 2009 16:21 GMT
It’s natural to be concerned about the risks associated with gastric bypass and gastric banding surgery, since some complications associated with weight loss surgery can be fatal.
A recent study by University of Washington researchers found the fatality rate from gastric bypass surgery can be as high as 5% for younger patients, and 50% or more for older patients.
Less experienced surgeons and obesity clinics have the highest rates of complications. It makes sense to discuss the possible risks with your doctor before agreeing to the surgery, and to find out how many previous surgeries they have performed, along with their outcomes.
Gastric Banding Complications:
It appears there are fewer complications after Lap-Band™ weight loss surgery, which restricts the size of the stomach but does not change the intestinal tract or cause the malabsorption of nutrients. The most common risks of this type of procedure are nausea, vomiting and gastroesophageal ... more »

What is the lemon detox diet?
by
247 Health Shop
on Tue 13 Jan 2009 15:27 GMT
Yes! A lemon detox diet IS effective for both cleansing and weight loss.
Here's the idea:
Consuming anything sour makes the liver and gallbladder purge stored toxins. The liver is especially important for weight loss and overall health. When the liver is filled with toxins, it cannot do its critical tasks in metabolizing fat. So that is why it is essential to keep your liver in top working condition.
In a lemon detox diet, you use the juice of a fresh lemon in a cup of hot water in the morning. The morning is when our bodies are in a natural cleansing phase, so it is a good time to consume cleansing foods and juices.
Then, you also use either fresh lemon juice or a slice of a lemon in water that you drink throughout the day. In the lemon detox diet, water is a key component. You should drink ... more »

gall bladder diet

on Tue 13 Jan 2009 15:25 GMT
Many people suffer from gall bladder disease as a consequence of inappropriate diet. The disease has a high incidence in people with overweight problems and the consumption of fat-rich foods is considered to be the main cause of gall bladder disorders. Women, people with ages over 50, people with gastro-intestinal disorders, people with diabetes and people with high blood cholesterol levels are very likely to develop gall bladder disease. A good gall bladder diet can ameliorate the symptoms of gall bladder disease and can also prevent the occurrence of complications.
Inappropriate diet leads to the formation of gallstones, which block the bile ducts and interfere in the normal activity of the gall bladder. The gall bladder is an organ that assists the liver in the digestion of fat. The gall bladder stores the bile produced by the liver and releases it when it is needed in the process of digestion. ... more »

The diet claims that cardiac wards in hospitals give patients this diet when they need to lose weight quickly for surgery or some other health manner. On this claim, the promoters of the diet tout its incredible effectiveness at helping people lose weight in no time at all.

Meal Replacement Diets

on Sun 21 Dec 2008 19:55 GMT
What are meal replacement diets? They are a relatively new way of losing weight, and they involve substituting the meals you already eat with prepackaged food.
The replacement meals are carefully designed to be portion controlled, low-fat, low-calorie and nutritionally balanced. They are easy to use, since you don't need to count calories, or worry about what foods to eat – this is all done for you. Usually, the replacement meals provide about 800 to 1000 calories a day.
When you go on a meal replacement diet, the meals you use will come in a packet which you then prepare, and can be soups, stews, chili, food bars, puddings and shakes.
The idea of a meal replacement diet is that you are forced into a 'calorie deficit' – your body burns its fat for the energy you need, and you get thinner. Your muscle mass stays the same.

1. Avoid drinking anything with meals
This hurts your digestion big time. The reason: You are diluting your enzymes. These enzymes break down and pre-digest food for you. If you wash them away with something you're drinking while you're eating foods, you just shot yourself in the foot as far as weight loss goes.
In fact, you encourage bloating and constipation by drinking water or anything else with a meal. To more efficiently lose weight, drink whatever it is you're drinking (hopefully water!!) 10 minutes before and/or after the meal.

Another Diet and its too good to be true!
by
247 Health Shop
on Thu 02 Oct 2008 13:13 BST
You cannot go anywhere, read or watch anythnig these days without having the latest diets rammed down your throat and after a while it gets a little boring.

Fat diets and miracle diet pill advertisements are all over the place these days- television, magazines, newspapers, and especially the internet. Unfortunately due to busier lifestyles, the overwhelming number of fast food restaurants, and lets face it... pure laziness... as a society we are getting fatter.
Due to those same busy schedules, people are looking for a quick fix; an easy and fast way to lose weight without a lot of effort or time required. Plenty of people have found ways to capitalize on this weight loss infatuation by selling bogus diet programs and products with no documented medical benefits. Even worse that are the diet pills that go unregulated because they claim to have natural herbals which do not have to be tested by the FDA. Not only do they not promote weight loss, but they can also have unexpected side effects or reactions because they have not been tested.
Often with these diet pills and natural supplements, they explode on the scene with expansive marketing campaigns, sell millions, and then disappear just as fast once people realize that they don't really work. You also have the extreme end of the supplement line, such as Ephedrine, which can actually result in complications and death.
Taking these weight loss pills can have devastating results, as in the case of Ephedra. Even some of the crazy diet fabs that suggest just eating one type of food for a week, or only drinking juice every day can be dangerous. While they may lead to some immediate weight loss, in the long run they actually result in gaining more excess body fat. So if fad diets and diet pills don't work, what are the options?
Study after study shows that the only way to lose weight and keep it off is a fundamental change in your diet and regular exercise. Most people rely on what manufacturers tell them about the products they are selling, to determine if a particular food product is healthy or not. This is one of the biggest mistakes that people often make when trying to lose weight. So-called health bars can actually lead to additional weight gain!
Most people also try to cobble together their own workout program at the gym, which only leads them to disappointment and frustration when they don't see results. Without proper guidance, the average person will not see the results they are looking for and will just end up spending excess time in the gym.
Proper guidance is out there if you really look for it. I found a great program that not only gave me a workout program that I could use in and outside of a gym, but it also gave with a nutritional guideline that helped change my eating habits. It is a book called The Truth About Abs (don't be fooled by the name). While it does show you how to get a slim waste with ripped abs, it is much more than that. The author is a certified nutritional specialist and certified personal trainer, so he combines the best of both worlds. The program showed me how to not only lose the weight, but it also showed me how to keep it off.
There are plenty of other programs similar the one that I used, but it may require some research. Before you decide to take the easy way for a temporary solution to your weight loss needs, put some research into a program that combines a balance of diet and exercise.

gmtv bikini diet Unless you have been living in mars for the last few weeks there is little doubt the success the gmtv bikini diet program has had on the nation. Unlike a lot of other TV shows the gmtv bikini diet program has been well put together and has effected both men and women alike.
If you are want to ensure successful weight loss results you are going to discover that there are some secrets that should be kept in mind when looking for a fast weight loss diet that suits you in this incredible industry.
1. Does the diet fit into life that you lead?
You will find that you need to think about the future when you are thinking about quick weight loss. When you are cooking for a large group of people it is hard to try a diet that is extremely different from what you are used to. When you bring the entire picture into focus you will find that you have to consider trying this diet or if it is something that needs to pass by.
2. How much weight loss are you attempting to loose?
There is a good chance that you are wondering what the meaning of rapid is when looking at rapid weight loss. Truthfully you should lose no more than two pounds in a week at the most. You will find that you will be better at losing weight and keeping it off if you lose the weight gradually when you are considering this. You want to be sure that you do not fail at your diet.
3. How long do you expect to be on the diet?
When you are considering a quick weight loss diet, think about what you have to do to keep the weight off. While a crash diet can get you down to the weight that you want to be at, you'll find that it simply will not keep you there unless you take steps to make it so. Take the time to make sure that your diet is one that is fairly sustainable; can you keep it up? Will it be a burden to you?
