The biceps tend to be the area of the body most men focus on when workin gout in the gym. Biceps are considered how muscular and athletic you look and in this article we look at ways to improve the strength and tone of your biceps.
The first thing you want to understand about building bigger biceps is how working with your arms natural movement creates a more intense workout. You get a more intense workout by fully contracting your biceps.
The primary function of your bicep muscle is not to bend your arm arm bring your hand up to your shoulder. That's right! I'll say it again as it's that important. The primary purpose of your bicep is not to bend your arm. The main purpose of your bicep muscle is to actually turn your wrist. Try this experiment:
Bend your arm into the flexed position. It doesn't matter if you actually flex your bicep or not for this little experiment. Now that your arm is bent turn your wrist so that it faces away from you and then turn it so that it faces you. As you are doing that simple movement look at your bicep. See what it's doing there? It's contracting fully as you turn your wrist to face you.
Now tell me what is one of the most popular bicep exercises in the gym. How many people do you see working out using some sort of E-Z curl bar. A lot I bet. Every one of those trainees using the E-Z curl bar is not getting full contraction of their bicep. In order to get full contraction your wrists have to be facing directly at your upper arm. With the E-Z curl bar your wrist is turned slightly inward and you are cheating yourself.
You also may want to consider using dumbells or another machine that allows you to twist your wrist as you go through the bicep curl. Using a dumbell try starting your bicep curl in the hammer curl position and as you bring the weight upward twist your wrist so that when you get to the top of the movement your palm is facing you.
I don't think that the E-Z curl bar is useless. Far from it actually but if it's the only bicep exercise you do please try to incorporate other variations as well. You will benefit immensely.
Good luck with your bicep workouts!
